PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A 23-year-old woman is accused of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest after authorities say she bit a sergeant's arm as police tried to make her leave Wendy's restaurant early Saturday.
The manager at the 731 Eddy St. Wendy's reported to police around 12:30 a.m. Saturday that Dailine Lopez, 23, had cut the drive-through lane and began swearing and making threats after being told she had to wait her turn, Commander Thomas Verdi said.
Lopez then threatened and swore at police officers after they directed her to move her car out of the lane, telling them she would not budge until she was served her food, the police said.
When officers tried to remove Lopez from the car and place her under arrest for disorderly conduct, she resisted, swinging at officers and biting Sergeant Patrick Potter in the left forearm, Verdi said. Potter struck Lopez and officers forcibly removed Lopez from the vehicle, placed her on the ground and handcuffed her.
Lopez proceeded to bang her head in the back of the cruiser while being driven to police headquarters; officers observed no injuries other that a cut to her knee cause by officers placing her on the ground, according to police. Lopez spit in officers faces while on the elevator at headquarters and in the cell block, the police said.
She is charged with two counts of simple assault and one count each of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and assault on a police officer. She is being held for an appearance in District Court next week.
All officers on scene had their body worn cameras activated, according to Verdi.
