'' 80 Hours Up-Skilling training '' under NBCFDC Skill Development Training Programme for the year 2017-18.

Handloom play a vital role in the state’s economy; proving sustenance to a large section of the people and at the same time, facilitating economic growth of the region. For this, it is essential to understand the role of handlooms in its proper perspective. In the rural areas, weaving activities are considered as an additional household chore to enhance family incomes and thus raise standards of living.

Therefore, for the economic upliftment of a large section of the population the development of this sector is of critical importance. The NE region is taking a place in the nation map for handlooms sector and it could find a niche market if proper planning and policies are framed.

Women weavers though largely dominated the handlooms sector in this region, with changing market structure and competition, they face conflict and compromise. They are still using manual looms with low technology base which affects production. If appropriate action is not taken, then there is a fear of replacing the handloom products by imported materials.

'80 Hours Up-Skilling training' at Bishnupur District

National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC) undertakes Skill Development Programmes for the target group i.e. poorest amongst the Backward Classes during the year 2017-18.

Under this programme Chanu Creations has been provided ‘‘80 Hours Up-Skilling’’ Training to 100 women weavers belongs to Backward Classes under the National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and in collaboration with Textile Sector Skill Council (TSC) at Nachou Awang Leikai & Bishnupur Awang Leikai of Bishnupur District, Manipur from 4th December, 2017 to 17th December, 2017.

The Project Manager of Chanu Creations Mr. W. Joyshankar Luwang, Coordinator Mr. Ph. Kangjamba Meitei, Head of ToT Mr. Y. Boby Singh, TSC Certified ToT Miss. Kh. Bidyarani Devi and Asst. Co-ordinators Mr. I. Tingku Singh & S. Nepolian Sharma were contributed their best efforts to conduct the training successfully within a very stimulated time frame. Assessment of the trainees were held on 18th December, 2017 by Intouch Professional Services Pvt. Ltd., Chandigarh.

Still we can be proud of our Handloom industry which has the full potential of representing the state from the ramp of the Fashion industry of the country and even to the Intentional Platform. The only thing that is needed is to change the outlook of our weavers.
