Florence (Tomczewski) Haze, 94, a lifelong resident of New Britain, joined her husband, Edmund, and her daughters, Elaine Haze Semanchik and Kathy Larkspur, in Heaven on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017.

For decades, Florence was a vibrant member of her community, helping her husband run their corner grocery store, Eddie’s Market on Allen Street, where they sold her famous pierogi. Florence was also known for her exceptional knitting and crocheting, making stacks of baby blankets, hats and mittens which she donated to local hospitals and charities. She and Edmund also made thousands of rosaries distributed through various ministries.

Florence is survived by her loving children: Susan T. Haze, Marge Russell and husband Charlie, Pat Haze and wife Dixie Botts, and Michael Haze and partner Michael Baskin. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Suzi Singleton, Lea Monarca and husband Sal, Mikel Seidl, Rachel McCall and Sarah Haze, along with a very precious great-granddaughter, Dalaina Monarca. Additionally, she is survived by four sisters: Nellie Hnatt, Jean Pasqual, Ann Chorzempa, and Fran Mazza, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, Dec. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY at Holy Cross Church, New Britain. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Florence’s name may be made to St. Lucian’s Residence, 532 Burritt St., New Britain, CT 06053, where she made her home for the last 15 years. “Rest in Peace Dear Florianna.”
