Gogglebox's Leon Bernicoff dead: Scarlett Moffatt leads tributes to the star
SCARLETT MOFFATT has lead the tributes to her former Gogglebox co-star Leon Bernicoff who has died aged 83.
Channel 4 confirmed the fan-favourite passed away in hospital today following a short illness.
The retired teacher appeared on the show with his wife of almost 60 years, June, and they were one of Gogglebox’s first couples when it launched in 2013.
Paying her respects to the witty star, last year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! winner Scarlett Moffatt sent her condolences to the family.
She wrote on Twitter: “Words can’t explain what you meant to so many people. From your words of encouragement to me to the little DMs. Leon you were loved by so many. Sending my love to you and all of your family .@LeonAndJune.”

The news of Leon’s passing hit another Ggoglehox star really hard as Sandi Bogle commented: "WOULD LIKE TO SEND MY CONDOLENCES TO ALL LEON AND JUNE FAMILY SO SAD TO HEAR ABOUT HIS PASSING ALL MY LOVE AND BLESSINGs.”
Steph and Dom Parker, who left the Channel 4 programme last year, also paid tribute: “So terribly sorry to hear the dreadful news about Leon!! Our hearts are with June and his family - what a dreadful loss to us all - he was always so cheeky and adored - the show will never be the same without him #leonliveson Huge #Chinchin in his honour.”
“Sending all our love to June and family at this sad time on the passing of our tv legend Leon R.I.P #gogglebox @Channel4,” wrote his co-stars Lee and Jenny.

Channel 4 paid tribute to him on Twitter: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and #Gogglebox legend Leon. We will all miss him so very dearly. Our thoughts are with June and family at this incredibly sad time.”
Leon was a devoted Everton fan and his beloved team posted a message after hearing the sad news.
They wrote: “Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Leon, the Evertonian who entertained the nation on @C4Gogglebox. Our thoughts are especially with his wife June at this terribly sad time.”
Paddy McGuinness recalled a fond memory of Leon, he said: “The critics critic. I once seen him slating Ant & Dec and they’re impossible to dislike! RIP the mighty Leon. #Gogglebox #Leon.”
Leon is survived by his wife June, two daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren.
