An eastbound stretch of Highway 401 is closed after an Essex County OPP cruiser was rear-ended Saturday afternoon.

Five people including a police officer were sent to hospital Saturday after an unmarked Essex County OPP cruiser was rear-ended on Highway 401.
Provincial police said none of the injuries are life-threatening.
Police closed the eastbound lanes of the 401 at Highway 77 to investigate. They didn’t say when the lanes would reopen.
The two-car crash happened in Lakeshore around 2:50 p.m. Provincial police said the cruiser was stopped on the shoulder of the highway when an eastbound Volkswagen ran into it just east of Highway 77.
There were five people in the Volkswagen. Four of those people were hospitalized along with the officer.
The OPP is asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Essex County detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
