He adds, "Spirituality overcomes materialism. You break free from your slavery to the senses. You begin to live a new life, a divine life of purity, love, renunciation, humility, non-attachment and selflessness. Your life becomes sublime like the life of Christ."
The word Advent means 'coming' or 'visiting' and the season focuses on seeking grace of God and the readings and reflections during the season are related to Lord's coming, the judgment and the hope of eternal life.
Dennis Bratcher writes in the Voice, a Christian Resource Institute periodical, "Advent is marked by a spirit of expectation, of anticipation, of preparation, of longing." He adds that the Advent season is celebrated as a time of joy and happiness as the faithful await the coming of the King and Christmas. During the season, Carols are sung and prayers of humble devotion, commitment, enlightenment, submission, and deliverance are held.
Thus, the season of Advent is about the Hope that human existence has meaning and possibility beyond our present experiences. He advises the followers to prepare for the 'Coming of the Lord' by getting imbued with spirituality, faith, hope and devotion.
