Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Nobody scammed India” (December 22). The 2G verdict and the judge’s strong language must be sweet music to the ears of an embattled Congress that had completely lost the perception to battle the BJP. But most of us do think that Special Judge OP Saini ought not to have gone into extra-judicial territory, commenting on “unfounded propaganda against the UPA”. Will that propaganda become kosher once his questionable order is stayed or reversed by a higher court? While the BJP vs Congress political battle will rage on, the 2G judgement itself must serve as a wake-up call for the institutions that are supposed to protect and defend India’s democracy. These include autonomous investigative agencies like the CBI and the media. Public perception, as the judge reminded, has no room in a system guided by laws.
