Tatanagar railway administration on Friday embarked on an anti-encroachment drive at Bagbera Railway Colony. More than 35 residential quarters were taken into possession by conducting the drive. These 36 quarters are among 120 such quarters which had been encroached upon by outsiders.
RPF inspector MK Singh said that the quarters which were taken into railway's possession were A Type quarters having one hall and kitchen beside bathroom and washroom.
"It was the need of the hour. Of the 36 quarters, 20 had been declared condemned by the railway engineering department, but 16 had been occupied unauthorised by outside elements. People were also staying at the condemned quarters of which we removed the door and window panels while carrying out the operation," said Singh.
The railway officials claimed that this drive will make a way for smooth flow of traffic. The policemen present on the spot removed the make-shift shops and the wares forcibly.
"We had informed those unauthorised persons living in these quarters to vacate them on their own. Today the railway officials took out the household belongings from the quarters where people were staying," said the RPF inspector. A number of women who were staying in these quarters unauthorisedly protested. Incidentally, more than 100 vendors still illegally occupy the pavements and the roads selling their products leaving practically no space for pedestrians to walk on the pavements while going to Tatanagar Station.
The bridge links Burmamines on one end and Jugsalai on the other and is the only road to Tatanagar Station for residents of Baridih, Telco, Golmuri, Sidhgora, Agrico, Birsanagar and Burmamines witnesses nearly 60,000 vehicles crossing it daily. The police have also asked make-shift shops and other encroachers to remove their things along the road.
