A Mount Pearl man has been charged with the murder of Victoria Head.

Steve Bragg, 35, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Bragg appeared in St. John's provincial court Saturday morning, with family members of Victoria Head present.

"I hope you see her face every time you close your eyes, you piece of shit," yelled Head's sister-in-law, Darlene Dinn, who ran out of the courtroom crying.

Outside court, a sobbing Dinn said she feels angry and empty over losing her sister-in-law.

"Christmas is two days away and it was her favourite time of year," she said.

"I'm broken. The family is broken. There's nothing anybody can do for to bring her back. It's huge, it's so huge that we have someone [arrested] but it still can't bring her back. That's all we want, is to have her home, to hug her."

Head's body was discovered Nov. 11 near O'Brien Farm on Oxen Pond Road. She was a 36-year-old mother living in St. John's, originally from Placentia Bay.

Bragg was remanded in custody and is due to be back in court Jan. 11. He will be represented by Jason Edwards.

The day after Head's body was found, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary issued a missing-person alert for Bragg. At the time, police said Bragg had last been seen Nov. 10 at about 2:30 p.m. in the area of Topsail Road and Cowan Avenue in St. John's. Police said they were concerned for his safety and well-being.
