FIROZABAD: After 30 years of wait, the district court of Firozabad awarded life sentences to three accused, who had lynched a man with iron rods back in 1987.

Bharat Singh (90), Naval Singh (65) and Raghuni (68) were awarded sentence in a special dacoity court of Mohammad Rizwan Ahemad.

On September 12, 1987, three convicts, along with Raghuvir and Pahuchilal, both of them who died during trial, had attacked Om Dutt Mishra with iron rods while he was on the way to Jasrana on his motorbike.

According to the victim's son, Ajay Kumar, "The gang of five that was in a bus waylaid my father near Machaliya village. They lynched him to death, but when three passersby - Jitendar Shankar, Ashok Tiwari and Munna Lal - came to rescue my father, the gang assaulted them as well and crushed the three rescuers under the bus tyres. The three sustained serious injuries."

Over the three decades, Naushad-ud-din, the government counsel, brought several pieces of evidence against the accused and finally succeeded in getting life sentence to the three.
