Watershed workers threaten stir again

| | NIMAPARA | in Bhubaneswar

Watershed employees would take to the streets again if the Government doesn’t regularise their jobs and fulfil other demands at the earliest.

Odisha Watershed Contractual Employees’ Association president Hajari Rout and convenor Asish Mohanty stated here that though the watershed projects are operating jointly by the State Government and the Central Soil Conservation department, yet they are being deprived of ‘equal pay for equal salary. Though they had taken to the streets from December 8 to press for their demands, yet police forcibly lifted them on December 18.

The demands include regularisation of jobs, equal pay for equal work and rearrangement of posts in the Pradhan Mantri Krushi Sichayee Yojna and provision of pension.

They said the association would stage demonstrations at district Collectors’ offices and in front of the State Assembly if the demands are not met soon.
