Real Madrid will SACK Zinedine Zidane unless he does this - Craig Burley

REAL MADRID will SACK Zinedine Zidane unless the Frenchman can win a third successive Champions League title.

That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley.

Real Madrid lost El Clasico 3-0 at the Bernabeu this afternoon and are now 14 points adrift of Barcelona in La Liga, but do have a game in hand.

Burley says in normal circumstances Real president Florentino Perez would have axed Zidane, but says the fact he has won the Champions League two years in a row has saved him for now.

But the Scot thinks Zidane will have to create more history in Europe’s elite club competition this term or he will be pushed out of the door.

He now needs to concentrate on the Champions League and if he pulls that off, he saves his bacon

Craig Burley on Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane

“Normally when they are 14 points behind of their biggest rivals, Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, is not slow in firing managers,” Burley said.

“But I think he’s got a bit of money in the bank Zinedine Zidane.

“They’ve just won back-to-back Champions Leagues, that’s the elite competition in Europe.

“They’ve has good success in La Liga, they’re still in the Champions League which starts again in February/March, they play Paris Saint-Germain.

“They’re out of La Liga, Barcelona are going to win La Liga, that’s not even up for discussion.

"So he now needs to concentrate on the Champions League and if he pulls that off, he saves his bacon.

“If he doesn’t pull that off and that gap continues to grow in the domestic league, he could be gone by the end of the season.”
