GURUGRAM: Police on Saturday claimed to have solved 21 cases of theft and robbery with the arrest of Praveen alias Ganja. According to police, Praveen and his two other accomplices who were nabbed earlier
robbed four petrol pumps in the last few months, two on Pataudi road and one on Khandsa road. He had been living in Basai village in Gurgaon for some time now, police said.
Praveen, who is from Etah in UP, was
arrested by the Sector 10 crime unit on Thursday from Pataudi road. Two other members of the gang, which according to police, is notorious for setting motorbikes on fire, were arrested by the police last week and have already been sent to judicial custody. Around two months ago, the group had torched four bikes inside a house in Gandhi Nagar in Gurgaon.
Praveen, who is under a three-day police remand for further interrogation was released from jail in July. Apart from this, the gang has been involved in
snatching of mobile phones and cash.
In one case they had robbed a shopkeeper of Rs 35,000 in Khandsa mandi road and had attempted to rob another trader on the day of Diwali, but the attempt was foiled by alert shopkeepers.
Police have also recovered a country-made weapon and one live round from the accused's custody.
An FIR has been registered against him for possession of the illegal weapon at the Shivaji Nagar police station under sections of the Arms Act.
