Liverpool news: BBC Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas SLAMS one Reds star after Arsenal draw

LIVERPOOL stopper Simon Mignolet is not good enough to play for a club as big as the Reds.

Jermaine Jenas slammed Liverpool stopper Simon Mignolet after the 3-3 draw with Arsenal

That's the damning verdict of BBC Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas in the wake of the Belgian's howler during Friday night's thrilling 3-3 draw with Arsenal.

Liverpool put themselves in a commanding position at the Emirates, with Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah’s goals either side of half-time handing them a 2-0 lead.

Arsenal hit back almost immediately after Salah struck through Alexis Sanchez though and that that set the tone for the next five minutes of madness.

Mignolet’s clanger came when Granit Xhaka fired in from range, as he clawed at the ball with just one hand before it rocketed past him.

Arsenal completed their comeback minutes later when Mesut Ozil dinked over the prone Mignolet, only for Roberto Firmino to salvage a point in the 71st minute.

Jenas offered his take on the game while appearing as a summariser on BBC Radio 5 Live.

And he specifically took aim at Mignolet for his goalkeeping gaffe - which isn’t his first for Liverpool.

"In the first half Liverpool controlled things," said Jenas.

"Somewhere along the line they lost confidence in the way they played and became more susceptible to Arsenal's attacks.

"The keeper is a major issue.

"For a club as big as Liverpool they need someone better between the sticks, as simple as that."

Friday night's draw left Liverpool fourth in the Premier League, a point closer to Chelsea who face Everton on Saturday.
