THANE: Amid the cheerful sounds of carol singing and
plays for the
Christmas celebration that closes the calendar year for
schools, students have also taken up
social service as part of the festivities.
While most schools have planned traditional Christmas celebrations, a few others have taken up social service to ring in the festivities. Keeping in mind the notion that Santa Claus watches the good and bad actions children do through the year before doling out the presents, many students are doing their share of good by donating their old books, toys and clothes to the under-privileged and participating in nature conservation activities.
"While the students of Billabong School are distributing gifts and toys to the underprivileged, the students of Thane's Dosti School are celebrating the festival by participating in a plethora of cultural activities in their fun fest held on Friday. They will also distribute sweets to the children of the site construction workers to spread the message of sharing and joy over the next few days," said Ranjini Krishnaswami, director of Billabong School and Dosti Foundation School.
Meanwhile, Asha Narayanan, principal of Lodha World School, said, "Our students have been sharing their time and talents with their classmates by either helping them in the schools work or just by being there for them instead of giving gifts."
Simmi Juneja, principal of Thane's DAV Public School, said, "Our school halls have been filled with music for weeks now as our students have been practising for the choir carol singing event."
Janessa Veigas, teacher at St. John the Baptist School, said, in addition to the carol singing, the students also prepared a special tableau about the story of the birth of Jesus Christ.
