At least two of the remaining four fodder cases in which Lalu's fate is to be decided are in the final stage and verdict is expected soon.
Case No. RC68A/96, involving fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 33.61 crore from the
Chaibasa treasury is in the last stage of hearing. Similarly, in case No. RC38A/96, involving fund embezzlement worth Rs 3.31 crore from the
Dumka treasury, the verdict is expected any time in January 2018.
Case no. RC47A/96 involving embezzlement of Rs.139.39 crore from the Doranda treasury is likely to take longer as less than half of the witnesses in the case have recorded their statements till date.
Lalu's counsel in Ranchi,
Prabhat Kumar, said since the court processes in the matter of RC38A/96 and RC68A/96 are almost over, verdicts are expected by mid-January.
"There are 990 witnesses in case number RC47A/96 of Doranda in which statements of 445 have been recorded in the past 21 years. It is really difficult to say when this case will reach a conclusion," he said.
