Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp wants Monaco star Thomas Lemar

Klopp saw his Liverpool side earn a thrilling 3-3 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates tonight.

And the Reds boss is hoping to get another one over Arsene Wenger next month in the January transfer window.

Klopp wants to add Monaco winger Lemar to his Liverpool squad as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, still wanted by Barcelona.

Arsenal tried to sign the 22-year-old last summer, but the player rejected the move.

And journalist Duncan Castles believes Klopp and Liverpool have been working hard to lure Lemar to Anfield instead.

Castles told The Transfer Window podcast: "He [Jurgen Klopp] wants Thomas Lemar this year.

"That's the deal that Liverpool have been working hard on - to convince Lemar to come to Liverpool as Coutinho's replacement."

Manchester United are also interested in Lemar, with Jose Mourinho eyeing him alongside Bordeaux ace Malcolm.

Castles added: "Liverpool definitely don't have a free run at him.

"Lemar is still a player that Manchester United are very interested in for that left-wing position, the left-footed winger that Mourinho desperately wants to add to the squad to add to its tactical dimension, but he's very expensive.

Jurgen Klopp wants reinforcements at Liverpool in January

"Arsenal's bid was €95million (£84m) for Lemar, the one that Monaco accepted.

"But Mourinho's working with a transfer budget in the region of €90m (£80m) for January so there you go.

"It would all disappear on one player if he couldn't move guys out for significant sums, and he's looking at Alex Sandro at left-back who's probably gonna be €60m (£53m) if they can manage to negotiate the price down.

"So Lemar is the expensive option for them, a much more reasonable option is Malcolm at Bordeaux, who is probably more direct, quicker, more likely to score goals from range but considerably cheaper than Lemar."
