Officials in Wyoming's largest city will apply for a grant to subsidize air service.

The Cheyenne Airport Board voted unanimously Thursday to seek a $580,000 state grant. The money would help lure a new airline to the airport.

A new terminal and other work at the Cheyenne airport are scheduled for completion sometime in 2018. The projects will cost $18 million.

Cheyenne-based Great Lakes Airline is providing one flight a week from Cheyenne to Denver, down from eight flights it used to make.

The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle reports airport officials are negotiating with two airlines. Possible destinations include Las Vegas, Dallas and Phoenix.

A $1.4 million guaranteed revenue grant approved in 2010 for American Eagle was used up in its first year in Cheyenne. The airline withdrew from Cheyenne in 2012.
