GURUGRAM: Eight people from
Ullawas village were
arrested for blocking Golf Course
Road extension on Wednesday evening. Police said the arrests were made after the villagers had
blocked the road in
protest against the arrest of four other people from their village by police, based on a complaint by a real estate developer.
Emaar had approached the police, claiming the four villagers were carrying out construction activity on a disputed land. The land, according to the developer, is under dispute and a civil court has also put a stay on construction there.
After the arrest of the four villagers, a group of Ullawas residents blocked the road, by placing stones on the road and creating a barricade using vehicles. Police said when they tried to reason with them, they did not agree to leave, forcing the cops to arrest them.
According to Surender, a former sarpanch of Ullawas village, says the half-acre land under question belongs to Lakhimchand and they have been given an option to move elsewhere because the area is to be developed by private developers. However, he said the land belonged to them and were not willing to move from there.
While the first FIR has been registered at Badshapur police station against the four people for violating the court order under sections 147 (rioting), 149, 447 (criminal trespass) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, the second one was filed against eight under sections 148 (rioting) 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) 225 (resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension of another person) 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter.) 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) etc.
When contacted, an Emaar spokesperson refused to comment.
