Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma hosted a grand reception in New Delhi Thursday night at the Durbar Hall of the Taj Diplomatic Enclave in Chanakyapuri area. The couple have also invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for tonight's reception.
With a neatly-tied bun encircled in a mogra gajra, Anushka wore a traditional red and gold saree designed by Sabyasachi with a heavy palla and jadau jewellery; chuda and sindoor in place. Virat appeared dapper in a black achkan and white churidaar and heavily embroidered shawl with golden border in black mojris. [Read: Virushka enjoy their honeymoon in heaven]

Virat Kohli and Anushka tied the knot in Tuscany, Italy on December 11. It was a private, family affair with less than 50 guests. Apart from the wedding, their mehendi function and engagement ceremony was also held in Italy.

They appeared for a photo-op at Hotel Taj Palace's Raja Baugh area. The couple were expected to appear for the event at 8 pm but like all good things take time they turned up at a little late but were a sight to sore eyes.

Interestingly, the decor of the alfresco stage matched with the trousseau and sherwani they wore on their D-Day in Italy.

The stage glimmered with the decoration likened to a glass-studded palace in place and the burning white candles atop crystal fixtures added an old-wordly charm to the whole set-up in the fine crescent night.
The reception ceremony was high on security and strictly for family and dignitaries in the city, with around a dozen of Delhi Police personnel in plain clothes guarding.

The function in the capital will be followed by a Mumbai reception on December 26, likely to be attended by friends and colleagues of the newlyweds.
The security detail at the Rani Baugh section of the hotel was heavier as Modi was expected to attend.
Last evening, Anushka and Virat met Modi and invited him to the reception.
Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal is also expected to attend.
On the wedding day, the couple in a statement said they will shift to their new residence in Worli, Mumbai later this month.

After the reception, the couple will fly to South Africa where Kohli will be prepping up for the upcoming series.
The actor will spend the New Year's Eve with her husband before flying back to Mumbai to start the shooting of Aanand L Rai's film with Shah Rukh Khan.

This was the ace designer's caption: "I don’t think Indian brides feel complete without wearing the colour red in one of their functions. Anushka decided to wear red on her reception. And much to my absolute delight, it would be a red Benarasi saree. From the by-lanes of Peeli Kothi in Benaras. I was particularly excited about this look because I have seen an entire generation of Bengali women getting married in red Benarasi sarees. The red bindi, the sindoor and the mogras in her hair just made the look more potent and powerful. She chose to wear heritage uncut diamond choker and jhumkas from the Sabyasachi Bridal Jewelry collection. Bollywood can play a major role in spreading awareness about Indian textiles and handlooms. And I must say the occasion couldn’t be better. I know copies of this saree will flood the entire country in the next few months to come, which also means that a million weaver’s children will be back at school. All I can say is thank you Anushka!"
