Google Pixel 2 XL Speaker Distortion Issues Reported by Some Users

Highlights

  • Distortion majorly noticed while attending a phone call on Pixel 2 XL
  • Users reportedly hear "buzzing" and "rattling" sounds
  • A similar distortion issue was reported on Pixel 2 last month

Some Pixel 2 XL users have reported that they are hearing buzzing distortion sounds when they use one of its stereo speakers in a phone call. While a group of users has reported on Google Product Forums that the phone produces distortion when using the speaker as an earpiece, the others are apparently hearing the "buzzing" and "rattling" sounds even when they put the phone on speaker mode. The latest issue surfaces a month after Google acknowledged a similar buzzing sound flaw on Pixel 2 devices.

Most of the users on Google Product Forums mentioned that they were able to notice the distortion specifically at higher volume levels. Furthermore, the users have observed the same issue even on the replacement units of the Pixel 2 XL. "I am on my second device which I received today to due to the speaker distortion on the bottom speaker... It sounds like the volume is too high for the lower speaker and distorts on medium-high volume," one of the users reported.

Google hasn't announced any fix regarding the issue. However, a community specialist on Google Product Forums recommended the affected users to switch to the safe mode to check whether a third-party app is creating a conflict. The specialist also suggested a factory reset if safe mode doesn't resolve the issue. Users should create a backup of their data before proceeding to reset their Pixel 2 XL.

Earlier this month, several Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL users reported faulty bundled headphone adapters. Some Pixel 2 XL users even reported slower fingerprint unlocking after installing the Android 8.1 Oreo update. The list of issues on the Pixel 2 XL also includes random reboots that were claimed to be fixed with an update soon.
