Charles Barkley's humor here from Thursday night's Inside the NBA about the new Republican tax bill appears to drip with sarcasm.
He said he's gotten a big gift this week and dove into why:
"Shaq, they said it's going trickle down … I'm going to trickle my fat (butt) down to the jewelry store to get a new Rolex. They're not going to pass it to nobody. Thank you Republicans, I knew I could always count on y'all to take care of us rich people, us one percenters. Sorry, poor people. I'm hoping for y'all, but y'all ain't got no chance."
Why do we think he's being sarcastic? Back in 2016, Barkley had this to say about politics:
"All politics is rich people screwing poor people. Poor people are too stupid to know they're just chess pieces in a game. All the poor white people, all the poor black people, all the Hispanics, they're in the same boat. They got no economic opportunities … they spend all their time blaming each other because rich people throw words at them like, illegal immigration, and racism and things like that. If poor people ever get smart, and realize like, 'We should band together, rise up, instead of fighting each other,' we probably can make a difference."
