New Delhi, Dec 22: Justice Om Prakash Saini has been in the news for the last few year for handling several high profile cases. Justice Sainia, the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court judge, on Thursday delivered a landmark judgement in the alleged Rs 1.76 lakh crore 2G spectrum allocation scam case wherein he acquitted all the 17 accused including former union telecom minister A Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi.

The 58-year-old judge hails from Haryana and began his career as a sub-inspector in Delhi Police in the early 1980s. He later joined the Delhi judicial services after clearing a competitive exam in 1987 and today is one of the most prominent judges in Delhi. Dealing with several big cases which involve prominent personalities has brought its own share of threat and Justice Saini has been given round-the-clock ‘Y’ category security cover by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

His deep understanding of law, fearlessness and integrity resulted in him being selected to hear the 2G spectrum scam case in which several politicians, bureaucrats and business tycoons were named.

His first big case was the 2000 Red Fort terror attack case in which the main convict Mohamed Arif was given death sentence and six others awarded life imprisonment on October 31, 2005. Justice Saini was provided with ‘Y’ category security cover following the verdict in the Red Fort terror attack case. He also heard the 2010 Commonwealth Games scam cases. The then sports minister Suresh Kalmadi was jailed in the case.

With Justice Saini acquitting all the accused in the alleged 2G scam, he has given a breather to those named in the case. Although it is still a long way to go in the case as the CBI and Enforcement Directorate have decided to seek legal remedies, Justice Saini has ensured that his name will be part of the judicial history of India.
