Police conduct awareness campaigns in villages

Child marriage continues unabated in the Rachakonda police limits, given 20 instances have come to light so far, this year.

Eight such instances were reported in the Bhongir zone alone.

Police are conducting awareness programmes in villages and towns to identify the families, who are looking for alliances for their minor daughters.

Further, the officials are conducting counselling of parents and seeking assurance that marriages be performed on attaining the legal age for marriage only, said Mahesh M. Bhagwat, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda.

“SHE teams are also working against child marriages apart from their regular duties of prevention of eve-teasing,” he said.

Child labourers rescued

According to him, a total of 815 child labourers, including 376 working in brick kiln were rescued by the Rachakonda police this year.

“The rescued children were handed over to their parents, guardians, through Child Welfare Association apart from setting up schools in the Oriya language, as several children were migrants from Odisha,” he said.
