BARCELONA: Turnout for crucial Catalan polls Thursday saw a significant increase in comparison to the last regional election in 2015, a record year for participation, official data showed.

At 6:00 pm, with two hours left to the closure of polling stations in the crisis-hit region, turnout was 68.3 percent, five points higher than in 2015.
