KANPUR: Chief minister Aditya Nath
Yogi said Ganga is most polluted between Kanpur and
Prayagraj (an ancient name of Allahabad). Inaugurating Bithoor Mahotsava on Wednesday, Yogi expressed concern over rising pollution level of Ganga. "Making Ganga clean is not a one-sided task. Government alone will not be able to clean the holy river until and unless it gets cooperation of every person of the society". People should pledge to stop doing any such activity which increases pollution in Ganga, he added.
Yogi said that he was confident that people of the industrial city would definitely come forward to clean the river. "We should take necessary steps to clean the river on time else it would become extinct. The river should be 'aviral' and 'nirmal' not for us alone but for all those who come from other countries to take a dip in it", he said.
The CM said the district administration should ensure people's participation in Bithoor Mahotsava so that it does not remain confined as government event only. "It is the responsibility of the district administration to tell people about the glorious history asociated with Bithoor Mahotsava". Bithoor is a historical place which witnessed the First War of Independence fought in 1857, he added.
He alleged the previous governments did not give any attention to the famous ghats situated in the industrial city.
"Now, with the help of the Central government, the ghats are being renovated and maintained. It should be kept in mind that Ganga is not just a river but it is our rich culture. Efforts should be made to conserve all rivers including Ganga", Yogi said.
