Doha: As part of Al Furousiya Street Development Project Al Furousiya and Muaither Roundabouts will be coverted into signal-controlled intersections to ease traffic congestion in the area.
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced that it will close a 1-kilometre section of Al Furousiya Street, in the direction leading from Muaither Roundabout to Al Furousiya Roundabout (Equestrian R/A), starting from Friday, December 22, 2017 for a period of four months, in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic.
During this period, traffic on the closed section of Al Furousiya Street will be diverted to a newly-constructed road parallel to the closed road, which includes 3 lanes, as shown in the attached map.
Lanes on the other direction of Al Furousiya Street will remain open to traffic.
The diversion aims to enable construction works as part of Al Furousiya Street Development Project, which includes increasing the number of lanes of Al Furousiya Street to four lanes in each direction with a service road on both sides of the street, in order to enhance traffic flow and increase the street capacity to accommodate current and future traffic requirements.
The project also includes converting Al Furousiya and Muaither Roundabouts into signal-controlled intersections to ease traffic congestion in the area, in addition to providing street lighting and pedestrian and cyclist lanes, among other works.
The Public Works Authority will install road signs advising motorists of the closure. Ashghal urged all road users to abide by the speed limit, and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
