Ammunition and tactical gear were stolen from the locked truck of an immigration agent’s official car in Oakland, the latest in a string of thefts from law enforcement vehicles, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement service reported on Wednesday.

The theft, reported to police on Monday, did not involve the loss of firearms, according to ICE service spokesman James Schwab.

The stolen items included a government credit card. They had been locked inside a lockbox, which was also taken.

The theft follows a rash of auto burglaries throughout the Bay Area involving vehicles of law enforcement officers, including a gun stolen from a federal Bureau of Land Management ranger’s car in San Francisco in 2015 that was used in the fatal shooting of Kate Steinle on Pier 14.

About a month after Steinle’s July 1, 2015, death, a gun, badge and ammunition were stolen from the car of UC Berkeley Police Chief Margo Bennett while it was parked near the Point Isabel Regional Shoreline in Richmond.

Also in 2015, a gun was stolen from an ICE agent’s rental car in San Francisco and used in the Sept. 29, 2015, killing of 27-year-old Antonio Ramos, as he worked on an anti-violence mural in Oakland.

In January, a submachine gun and a bulletproof vest were stolen from an FBI agent’s car in the East Bay. And in November, guns and ammunition were stolen from a San Mateo County sheriff’s deputy’s car in San Francisco.
