Joey Atkins scored 31 points to lead undefeated Watervliet to a 74-52 victory over host Voorheesville on Wednesday in a Colonial Council boys' basketball contest.
The Cannoneers held a slim advantage, 19-18, at the end of the first quarter before outscoring the Blackbirds 40-21 over the next two periods to pull away for the win. Watervliet improves to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Colonial Council with the victory.
P.J. Parker had 16 points to lead Voorheesville, which dipped to 2-4 and 2-3 in league play.
More boys' basketball: Dan Kellenbenz dropped in 18 points to help Germantown pick up a 44-39 win over Pine Plains in a nonleague game. Kellenbenz scored eight of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to put away the game for the Clippers. ... Peyton Lufkin scored 25 points and Andrew Facin added 19 points to lead Argyle to a 60-55 Adirondack League win over Granville. Bart Bartholomew made three 3-pointers and scored 15 points to lead Granville. The Golden Horde (3-1) made 13 3-pointers and seven two-point baskets. Garrett Caprood scored seven points and grabbed 14 rebounds for Argyle (5-0). ...Mitch Barton led Schoharie to a 68-62 Western Athletic Conference win over Northville with 30 points, hitting five 3-pointers. Nate Reidell led Northville with 18 points, also making five 3-pointers.
Girls' basketball: Waterford raced out to a 17-3 advantage at the end of the first quarter and held off a late rally by Saratoga Catholic to win 33-28 in a Wasaren League contest. Annelise Rebel had a game-high 11 points to lead the Fordians. Ani Crocker had 10 points for Saratoga Catholic.
