ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The death of a former Missouri bishop, Cardinal Bernard Law, who resigned his position at the height of the clergy abuse crisis, sparks reaction from local abuse survivors.
Cardinal Law served as Bishop of the Springfield Cape Girardeau Diocese from 1973 to 1984 before being named Cardinal of the Boston Archdiocese. He resigned in 2002 after court documents revealed he had failed to stop priests who molested children.
St. Louisian David Clohessy is the former head of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests.
“Both by what he did do and what he didn’t do, he caused an enormous amount of pain,” he says.
Cardinal Law died in a hospital in Rome after a long illness at the age of 86.
