Man Utd star Paul Pogba lucky to avoid red card against Bristol City - Phil Neville

PAUL POGBA was lucky not to get sent off against Bristol City this evening.

That is according to pundit Phil Neville.

Manchester United's record signing couldn't stop his side being knocked out of the Carabao Cup, as Korey Smith struck to give City a late winner.

Pogba was embroiled in a midfield battle all evening with counterpart Marlon Pack.

And when a loose ball was up for grabs, the opponents both came together, with Pogba missing the ball and catching Pack high on the leg.

Mike Dean waved away the cries from the Ashton Gate faithful.

But Neville believes Pogba has been very fortunate.

“He’s got away with that there, because he’s not connected with the leg of Pack”

"He got sent off for a tackle like this on Bellerin," he said on Sky Sports.

"He’s got away with that there, because he’s not connected with the leg of Pack, he has slid across the thigh.

"If he’d connected with studs that'd be a red card and another three-game suspension so he's really lucky."

As Neville mentioned, Pogba was dismissed against Arsenal earlier this month, after a late challenge on defender Hector Bellerin.

He has served his three-match suspension and is back in contention for United's trip to Leicester on Saturday.
