The confirmation is one of a number made over the last few months on defections from the rogue regime.

Amid North Korea’s rhetoric of war with the US, official figures highlight that there has been an increase in the number of people fleeing the country.

An official tally shows that so far this year 15 North Koreans, including four soldiers have left the country, while only one soldier and four civilians left in total during 2016.

Last month a soldier to the hermit state suffered multiple gun wounds and spent several days in hospital after successfully escaping on foot through the demilitarised zone.

The defector Oh Chong Song drove a jeep towards the South before losing control and crashing into a ditch. He then sprinted the final few metres as North Korea guards opened fire.

The soldier was shot multiple times by North Korean military as he made his made his way across the heavily fortified border.

The announcement about the two latest civilian defections came at the same time as it was announced that another solider had also slipped the clutches of Kim Jong-un’s evil regime.

The "low-ranking" soldier appeared in front of a guard post on the mid-western front at around 11pm GMT on Wednesday (8.04am local time on Thursday) amid thick fog, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

North Korean soldiers reportedly did not shoot at the latest defector and no unusual movement of the North's border troops was detected.

The last time defections made international news the country’s dictator is said to have punished the army.
