Bihar: Boiler blast in sugar factory kills 4, 9 injured

The impact of the explosion was so high that three persons who were working in the vicinity of the boiler there bodies were ripped apart.

Four persons lost their lives and 9 were injured when a boiler at a sugar factory in Gopalganj district in Bihar exploded last night. The incident happened at around 11:30 PM on Wednesday at the Sasmusa sugar factory in Gopalganj, approximately 170 kms from Patna.

According to eyewitnesses, the impact of the explosion was so high that three persons who were working in the vicinity of the boiler there bodies were ripped apart. Sources say that at the time of the explosion, there were at least 100 workers working in the sugar factory.

The deceased have been identified as Arjun Kushwaha, resident of Kuchayat Kot, Kripa Yadav, resident of Baani Khajuri and Md. Shamsuddin, hailing from Padrauna district in Uttar Pradesh. It is feared that several other workers at this sugar factory may still be trapped under the debris.

 

The injured have been admitted at the civil hospital in Gopalganj where their condition is said to be critical. The doctors have also referred three persons injured to Patna's PMCH for advanced treatment. The injured workers have been identified as Banka Yadav, Kanhaiya Prasad, Md. Harool, Parasnath, Bikram Yadav, Ravindra Yadav, Md. Hasanuddin and Chandradev Prasad.

"The condition of all the 9 workers who have been brought to the hospital is extremely serious. We have referred three of them to Patna", said Shashi Kant Mishra.

 

Soon after the incident, police and senior officials of the Gopalganj administration rushed to the site and started the operation of rescuing the injured. Police sources say that the initial cause of the explosion of the boiler is believed to be overheating which may have led to the incident.

The police have begun investigation into the incident to ascertain the reason behind the incident.
