Three-day district conference begins

Observing that the recent election results in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, suggested need for an alternative party, other than the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, CPI(M) central committee member V. Srinivasa Rao said the time for a ‘bahujan front’ has arrived.

“People of Gujarat nearly defeated the BJP and did not vote for the Congress, but chose independent candidates like Jignesh Mevani,” he said.

Inaugurating the 19th CPI (M) district mahasabha at Nakrekal on Wednesday, Mr. Rao opined that a post-election result analysis indicated the need for an inclusive and people-run alternative. Reviewing the governance and achievements showed by the BJP at the Centre, and TRS in the State, he said they revealed more hollowness than development, and for development to happen, “We need a Kerala model,” he said. Mr. Rao also said there was a conspiracy by the State Government to ridicule and downgrade the Telangana Armed struggle movement.

While the Centre continued its praise of Vallabhai Patel, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao glorified the Nizam, he said.

The three-day mahasabhalu started on Wednesday and being held at Srinivasa Kalyana Mandapam in Nakrekal.
