Court convicts Bathinda man of 26-year-old’s murder

CHANDIGARH: The district court of Chandigarh on Wednesday held a Bathinda resident guilty for murdering a 26-year-old man in 2016. The quantum of sentence in the matter is expected to be pronounced on Thursday. The convict, Manpreet was held guilty under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

The matter dates back to June 2016 when the case got registered. The victim, Sanjay Kapoor who later succumbed to his injuries at PGI in his compliant, stated that he had been working as a carpenter and was living at Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh.


The victim and the accused, who was his friend, had given money to some agent to send them abroad. The accused had lended Rs 1.25 lakh to the victim for the same. On June 11, the accused Manpreet came to his residence at Mauli Jagran to meet him and then started asking for his money, which he had lended to the victim. The victim assured to him his money very soon.


On June 12, 2016, the accused asked for his money again and when the victim gave the same reply, the accused entered into an argument with the victim, after which stabbed Sanjay multiple times. TNN
