The University of Alabama System’s executive committee approved UAB’s plans to purchase Snoozy’s College Bookstore in Birmingham and UA’s purchase of 2.2 acres in Lake View.

The trustees met by phone on Wednesday afternoon to approved the purchases.

Snoozy’s College Bookstore plans to close at the end of the month. UAB is purchasing the property at the corner of 14th Street South and 10th Avenue South for $4.2 million. The tract includes the bookstore and neighboring buildings that house the World of Wings and Subway. The restaurants will remain open with plans to convert the bookstore building for academic use, according to the proposal.

UA will pay $37,400 for the land located off Alabama Highway 216 in Lake View. The tract is contiguous to about 40 acres of land owned by UA. UA is purchasing the land to improve access to the existing holdings, Vice President of Financial Affairs Lynda Gilbert said.
