‘CM should implement his promises to promote Telugu’

HYDERABAD: BJP state unit chief K Laxman asked Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to start implementing the latter’s resolve to protect and promote Telugu language by taking immediate steps to provide required infrastructure for the Telugu University’s new headquarters. It is being set up at Bachupally on the outskirts of Hyderabad.“In 2003, the then government of the erstwhile united State had decided to set up a new campus for the university on 100 acres of land at Bachupally. Since then, the relocation of the university from Public Gardens to Bachupally has been going on at a snail’s pace.”

“Of the 100 acre land, a few acres has already encroached by land sharks. Is the government aware of the fact that Telugu university’s headquarters is coming up at Bachupally?” the BJP leader questioned and asked the Chief Minister to release `100 crore immediately for providing all necessary infrastructure for the university at Bachupally.In an open letter written to the Chief Minister Wednesday, Laxman recalled that foundation stone was laid for students’ hostel, library, college and administrative block on the site in 2003 itself. 

But, all the buildings are yet to be completed for full use by the university authorities. “The hostel building was inaugurated in 2005 with 50 rooms. At first, 100 students used to stay in the hostel. Now, accommodation is provided to 50 only students. Moreover, local gram panchayat is supplying water to students with water tankers, everyday. There are no basic amenities for the students in the hostel,” he alleged.
