| | MALKANGIRI | in Bhubaneswar

Maoists again created mayhem by killing a tribal villager terming him as a police informer and torched machines engaged in road construction work at Nakamamudi Pipilipadar village in the Chitrakonda cutoff region in Malkangiri district on Tuesday night. The deceased wasn identified as Sadhu Khemunu of Pipilipadar. The ultras claimed that Khemunu was working for police.

Sources said a group of Red rebels barged into the village and dragged him out of his house. Later, they killed him by slitting his throat and dumped his body at a nearby forest.

Besides, opposing road construction in the area, the rebels set afire a JCB machine and two tractors and a water tanker at the village.

In a separate incident, the Maoists put up posters at MPV-35 village in Kalimela of the district. They threatened locals of death punishment in Kangaroo Court if they work for police and opposed the police camp in the area.

The posters further stated that the village heads, who are collecting fine from the innocent villagers, should stop such activities. The quacks have also been threatened for practising sorcery.

On Tuesday, the rebels had thrashed to death a villager in Mahupadar in the district on the allegation of being a police informer. The spurt in Maoist activities has triggered panic among the locals in the ultra-infested district.
