A Parliamentary panel has expressed dismay at the Government’s failure to fill up vacant posts at the top level in many cultural institutes like Salar Jung Museum, National Council of Science Museums and National Library.
Moreover, a large number of vacancies exist in the Archeological Survey of India (ASI), the panel headed by Rajya Sabha member Derek O’ Brien said in its report tabled in Parliament on Wednesday. In ASI, out of total 8,424 sanctioned strength, 2,914 are vacant.
National Library (Kolkata), Delhi Public Library (Delhi), Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library (Patna), Anthropological Survey of India, Indian Museum (Kolkata), National Council of Science Museum (Kolkata), Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, five Zonal Cultural Centres and Kalakshetra Foundation are some of the organisation that the panel has found to be headless so far.
The Government in its reply said advertisement for one post of Director, NGMA, New Delhi has been issued on January 19 while as far as filling up the post of the Director in Salar Jung Museum is concerned the long drawn court case has been settled and stay in the matter has been vacated. The process of appointment has already been initiated and is likely to be completed in a time bound manner, the Government said.
