(MENAFN Editorial) A local dental practitioner, Dr. James Willis, was inducted as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists at its 88th Annual Convocation in Atlanta, Georgia on October 19, 2017. An honorary organization for the recognition of outstanding and meritorious service to the profession and community, the College presented Dr. Willis with a membership plaque, a gold lapel pin, and a gold key symbolic of this Fellowship for conspicuous service rendered in the art and science of Dentistry.

In an impressive cap and gown ceremony, Dr. Willis was inducted into the College at this year's ceremony witnessed by distinguished members and guests. The College, with representative chapters in more than 120 countries, has over 11,000 members, including about 6,500 in the United States.

PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Willis is active in the dental community of Northern Virginia, volunteering at community clinics, organizing community service events, and participating in charitable activities. Dr. Willis is a member of the Executive Committee of the Northern Virginia Dental Society (NVDS), serves as the President of NVDS, and sits on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Dental Association (VDA). Dr. Willis also serves on the NVDS Patient Relations Committee and previously as Chairman of the NVDS Community Outreach/Mission of Mercy (MOM) Committee and Co-Director of the VDA sponsorship of the Virginia High School Science Fair. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, the Northern Virginia Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), and the International College of Dentists (ICD).

is a general dentist practicing in Northern Virginia at his office, . His primary areas of focus are general dentistry, restorative dentistry, dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, surgical dentistry, and prosthodontics. He stays well-informed regarding the latest technologies and procedures within dentistry by earning continuing education certificates in a wide range of dental topics comprising, to name just a few examples: dental implants, Invisalign® orthodontics; cosmetic dentistry; oral surgery; and root canal therapy.

Dr. Willis was born and raised in Maryland. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) at the University of Maryland where he was vice president of Eta Kappa Nu, a national EE honor society. Dr. Willis earned his Masters of Science degree in EE with honors at Johns Hopkins University.

Prior to attending dental school, Dr. Willis practiced as an Electrical Engineer for approximately seven years in the fields of telecommunications and national defense. He served one year in Germany as a missionary engineer for Adventist World Radio (AWR). Dr. Willis then applied his technical knowledge to patent prosecution as a technical writer for Venable, LLP in Washington, DC.

Dr. Willis graduated from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry and practiced as a General Dentist in California prior to returning to the east coast to practice in Northern Virginia. He has a passion for international travel, having spent time in over 35 countries, volunteering his dental services through missions in countries including Chad, Sri Lanka, China, and Colombia.
