BENGALURU: For the first time, the state education department has decided to promote teachers based on their qualification. As per the information available from the department, there are over 12,000 teachers who have completed their graduation and post graduation. Now, the department has decided to promote eligible teachers as per their qualification. All they need to do is, clear a written examination at the department level.
The process of promoting high school teachers to Pre-University level was stopped during 2012, but the department is now re-starting the process. Teachers working with state government high schools having the qualification to teach Pre- University level can clear the examination and get promoted. The same procedure applies to primary and secondary levels too.
Explaining this, State Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait said, “Those who have done their graduation and are working at primary schools, will be promoted to secondary level. Similarly, those who have completed graduation and are working at secondary level will be promoted to high schools.” The minister said, this is to improve the quality of education/teaching at government schools and also to make use of their knowledge at appropriate levels.
KPSC model at TET
However, the process to recruit 10,000 primary and secondary teachers has started. The department is implementing an evaluation process similar to a procedure that’s being practised at Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). Tanveer Sait said, “In KPSC, they conduct two rounds of evaluation and if the difference of marks is more than 15%, then it will be referred for a third evaluation. We are introducing the same method in Teachers Entrance Test (TET).”The dates for TET for this year will be announced by the end of January 2018 and the entire process will be done before February 15th.
‘240 errors found in revised textbooks’
THE Department of Public Instruction has identified 240 typographical and factual errors in the text books revised by the text book revision committee headed by writer Prof Baraguru Ramachandrappa. The state primary and secondary education minister Tanveer Sait revealed this at a press conference held in the city on Wednesday. “The committee constituted to look into the errors in the revised textbooks introduced at state schools has found 240 errors, both typographical and factual,” said minister. However, the department has issued a corrigendum to schools. Despite errors, the department has decided to continue with the same textbooks even for 2018-19 academic year. “As it is a policy decision by the state government, we will stick to these revised text books even for next academic year. The NCERT textbooks for Class 6 to 8 have been translated, but we will stick to the policy decision,” mentioned Sait.
