Cites contradictory statements of govt.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) local unit on Wednesday demanded a White Paper on the financial position of the Union Territory.

BJP State unit president V. Saminathan told presspersons here that there had been contradictory statements from the government on the financial position. While the Chief Minister had dismissed reports about financial emergency, the Social Welfare Minister had expressed doubts about the government’s ability to pay salaries next month. The Minister had, on several occasions, highlighted financial constraints faced by the government.

Since there were divergent views on the issue, the government should come clean on the state of the finances, Mr. Saminathan said. “If the government approaches the BJP, we will certainly take up the issue with the Union government,” Mr. Saminathan said. People had lost faith in the government because of misgovernance. Even the Congress MLAs had started complaining about the government, he said.

Besides lack of governance, there had been complaints of diversion of funds from the Special Component Plan, he alleged.

Walkathon

The party would organise a walkathon from Villianur and Thavalakuppam to the New Bus Stand on December 23 to highlight the failures of the Congress government. The walkathon would culminate with a public meeting on the same day evening near Swadheshi Mill complex.
