PUNE: A woman resident medical officer (RMO) of a private hospital was booked by the
Chatushrungi police on Tuesday for allegedly stealing her colleague's debit card and using it to withdraw Rs 50,000 from an ATM in
Chinchwad and making online transactions worth Rs 1,506.
She stole the debit card from the change room for the doctors in the hospital on November 26. She knew its PIN. She also made online transactions using the card to buy clothes between November 26 and 28.
A hospital spokesperson on Wednesday said, "The hospital employees have no role in the crime. The suspect was removed from service after the incident came to light."
Chatushrungi police station's assistant inspector
Sandesh Kenjale said the woman stole the debit card of her 31-year-old colleague, also an RMO, when she was called for emergency duty.
She swiped the card and used the PIN to withdraw Rs 50,000 in five transactions from an ATM at Chinchwad and for the online transactions.
The colleague blocked the card after she the fraudulent transactions came to her notice. She filed a complaint application with the police eight days ago after the woman denied stealing her card.
Kenjale said, "We summoned the woman doctor for an inquiry, but she denied stealing the card. Our probe confirmed that the card was used for withdrawing money and making online transactions. We then took a call to lodge an FIR against the suspect and appointed a woman police officer to conduct the investigations."
"We have sent emails to the bank and the e-commerce website for giving us details of the transactions made by the woman at the earliest," Kenjale said.
A case under section 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the suspect.
