A Rejuvenation and a Divide

The Morgan Library and Museum, on Madison Avenue between East 36th and East 37th Streets, is part of a historic district in Murray Hill. It covers half a block and includes the private library of the financier John Pierpont Morgan, which was built between 1902 and 1906 adjacent to his New York residence. A 1928 annex has replaced the residence, and an adjacent brownstone, a garden court and other amenities have been added in recent years.
