The government of Pakistan reacted towards the recent remarks of the US President Donald Trump regarding the further steps needed by Pakistan to act against the terrorist groups using the Pakistani soil.
The ministry of foreign affairs of Pakistan in a statement said the US National Security Strategy 2017 released on 18 December has made certain unsubstantiated allegations towards Pakistan.
Claiming that the country has long been at the forefront in the fight against regional and global terrorism, Pakistan’s foreign ministry said “In a troubled neighbourhood, Pakistan continues to suffer at the hands of state sponsored terrorism, funded and abetted by our neighbours through proxies.”
The statement further added the Afghan soil, despite substantial US presence, is being constantly used by elements hostile to Pakistan’s stability.
“Pakistan’s efforts and sincere proposals for effective border management to prevent cross border movement of militants and return of Afghan refugees are yet to make any headway,” the statement said, adding that “On the other hand, a malicious campaign is under-way to undo Pakistan’s achievements in the war against terrorism.”
President Trump in his new national security strategy has stated that the United States continues to face threats from transnational terrorists and militants operating from within Pakistan.
President Trump further added that the United States seek a Pakistan that is not engaged in estabilizing behavior and a stable and self-reliant Afghanistan.
He also added that “We will press Pakistan to intensify its counterterrorism efforts, since no partnership can survive a country’s support for militants and terrorists who target a partner’s own service members and officials
