Arizona State coach Herm Edwards has promoted Dave Christensen to offensive line coach. Last season, Christensen served as a consultant on coach Todd Graham's staff, which means he could attend practice but not coach players.

A former college head coach, Christensen replaces Rob Sale, who initially was retained by Herman but left to become Billy Napier's offensive coordinator at Louisiana. Christensen joins offensive coordinator Rob Likens and running backs coach John Simon as the only announced hires on Edwards' coaching staff.

A defensive coordinator likely will be in place soon, maybe by the end of the week. Edwards has yet to name any assistants on that side of the ball.

Christensen, 56, has coached in college for more than 35 years. As head coach at Wyoming, he went 27-35 in five seasons. He has coached the line throughout his career, most recently at Texas A&M in 2015.

ASU next season should return four starters up front, losing only center A.J. McCollum.
