Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Map of India Modi-fied” (December 20). Gujarat, the home State of Modi, voted for him for the sixth term but with a much narrower margin. A swing of 10 seats would have made the contest a cliffhanger. Facing its toughest electoral contest in over 22 years, the BJP fell back on its most-trusted mascot to help it cross the finishing line in the State.
In the end, all that matters is a win. The BJP had successfully thrown in everything but the kitchen sink to win Gujarat for the sixth consecutive time. Even if it meant the Prime Minister put national governance on a slow flame and made the election all about himself.
