Next Generation Ballet brings out ‘Nutcracker’

For the Christmas season, Straz Center’s Next Generation Ballet presents “The Nutcracker,” Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet. Miami City Ballet former principal Patricia Delgado and New York City Ballet principal Gonzalo Garcia will perform the Sugarplum Fairy and her Cavalier today, while New York City Ballet principals Sara Mearns and Amar Ramasar portray them Friday and Saturday. The cast of nearly 175 dancers, gymnasts and other artists even includes Audra Cockrell, who lives in Sarasota and plays the Snow Queen.

“Nutcracker” runs Thursday through Saturday in Morsani Hall at the Straz Center, 1010 N. Macinnes Place, Tampa; $30 and up; 813-229-7827 or 800-955-1045; strazcenter.org
