For exhibiting impressive performance at an event Madhya Pradesh Water Sports Academy has been awarded as ‘Best Sailing Club’ and player Harshita Tomar has been awarded as ‘Best Sailor of the Year’.
An event was organized in New Delhi by the Chairman of Naval Association Admiral Sunil Lamba recently. The award was received by the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Department Upendra Jain. On this occasion Chief Instructor of Sailing GL Yadav was also present.
Upendra Jain said that it is the result of efforts made by Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare Yashodhara Raje Scindia to promote the sailing sport is that today the academy players are performing well at international level and are honoring Madhya Pradesh by earning medals. With the efforts of Sports Minister, the country's first sailing school was established in 2006 in Bhopal.
Harshata Tomar has been conferred with Best Sailor Award for her outstanding performances at National and International level. Hailing from Hoshangabad Harshita Tomar is the emerging promising player of the Sailing Academy. She has bagged three gold and one bronze medal in international tournaments. Harshita Tomar won the gold medal in the Laser 4.7 event of the Sailing Championship held in Dubai in 2017. He won gold medal in the 2014 Optimistic Class boat of India organized in Chennai in 2015. In the same year, Harshita Tomar also earned gold in the laser 4.7 girls category of India International Rigata organized in year 2016 in Chennai. In National Competitions, Harshat Tomar has earned 11 medals including 6 gold, 4 silver and one bronze.
Besides, Water sports academy's player Ram Milan Yadav was awarded as ‘Best Upcoming Sailor’ award. Ram Milan Yadav won bronze medal in the Laser 4.7 Open category of International Competition Multi-Sailing Championship held in Hyderabad in 2016. He has earned eight medals including five gold, two silver and one bronze in national championships.
At the Water Sports Academy, run by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, players are being provided international training at the international level.
