A total of 1,397 beneficiaries were chosen as per the first Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the city Corporation. Of this, 1,300 beneficiaries signed the agreement and received building permits. For the second and third DPRs, 1,862 and 1,879 beneficiaries have been approved.
Of the 16,000 applicants, many did not have the proper documents required, especially the ones to prove ownership of the land on which the house is to be built. The beneficiaries are required to also have bank accounts and Aadhaar card numbers. The total project cost is ₹154.11 crore. The Union government share out of this will be ₹77.06 crore, while the State government share is ₹25.68 crore. The Corporation will shell out ₹26.4 crore and the beneficiaries ₹24.95 crores.
The funds will be provided in four instalments, with disbursals of 10 per cent, 40 per cent, 40 per cent and 10 per cent, over a period of one year, during which the construction should be completed.
Each beneficiary gets funds of ₹2.5 lakh, to which the beneficiary contribution of ₹50,000 is added. Mr. Jaleel said the beneficiaries will henceforth get ₹4 lakh for building houses with the plan to augment the Kerala Government's LIFE (Livelihood, Inclusion, Financial Empowerment) housing project. The local body has implemented the geo-tagging system for the PMAY scheme. The distribution of funds will be done only after checking the photographs of the progress of work, uploaded by the beneficiaries. Geo
